Her lilac hair bristled with indignation, and it ran to the tips of her knock-off Jimmy Choo’s.

“I’m not moving to an apartment.” With tight lips and a twitching jaw muscle, she repeated the phrase like a mantra.

“Grandma, you can’t keep up with this house anymore.”

“Riffraff lives in apartment buildings. That’s where you come from, not where you go to.”

“I’m showing you a condo, not an apartment.”

“Oh, well, in that case. It does sound like it has a bit of panache, a certain je ne sais quoi.”

I quietly dropped my forehead to the table.
